ConGen - The Connected Generation

The new generation is growing up online. Our kids are continuously connected through social networks and they all get their info from google.com

How do we, the older generation, do it and how long can we keep on doing it the same old fashion way, or have we already paced into the new generation..?

In the history there where books like "Encyclopædia Britannica". How many of us head to the bookshelf and look something up in a huge book of knowledge today? Probably few, because today we all ask Google. It is fast, it is near and it is free of charge. And everything that is free and easy to use normally gets used. If even the older generations do use Google, I cannot help wondering how long it will take until we adopt the other ways of acting in the connected world. We see the future already with gadgets online all the time, 3G turns into 4G and we hardly remember the old modems with a maximum capacity of 2400 byte per second. The new way of communication through Social Media is he to stay, if I cannot find the answer on Google, I'll ask a friend. And this have started its journey into business - and its name is Enterprise 2.0.

Ask yourself - are You inside or outside this development - I strongly believe that we all are a part of it, no matter what we think or want. Soon we will notice that the transparency we have adopted in the private zone, with Facebook, Linked in, MSN and other tools will be a part of the Enterprise World - driving the company information, as well as the knowledge and support from my colleagues and community co members, at my fingertips. Continuously online, with the all knowledge power of my networks. All with a click on the iPhone, iPad or other devices - no matter where we are in the world.

Although the world is not perfect yet, I am currently sitting on a Boing 747 over the Atlantic and wondering what happened with the planes with Wi-Fi? Because I know they exist, I have experienced them, but still I am still sitting at seat 21C with my gadgets in Flight mode, off line pumping emails into my To be sent box... How long will it take? I am sure that I am a member of the Connected Generation, although I have passed 40 - and I get frustrated by being offline because the info I need for my work was on SharePoint Online and on top of this I miss my social networking. The best KLM have to offer is to make a phone call for 10$ a minute, and this in a world where Skype is mainstream...

Too bad, nothing else to do then to relax and watch a movie...
